Rutherford County... the death of a great boys softball league!
Located at the exact geographical center of the state, Rutherford County  served as the exact center of the boys softball world in Tennessee as well. Now the fastest growing county in our state, Rutherford seems to have "outgrown" it's affection with boys softball. In the early to mid 1990's there were  numerous boys travel teams from the Murfreesboro area in 2004 we had none.
There was a strong boys softball league centered around the rural areas of Rutherford County and the community rivalries were  plentiful and fierce. It's all gone now, they call it progress, but the influx of so many people that had no ties to the Old Communities destroyed the Boys Softball League in Rutherford County.

While the County League is no more, the rememberances of past teams, players, and coaches remains a strong memory for me. From time to time I see a player of two that still plays in the Men's tournaments and we talk about how it was back in the glory times of County League play.
We are told the only thing certain in this world is change....but it does seem at times the change even though it is certain does not always bring about better results!  ..... Mike Mason
